Originally designed as a much longer, detailed piece, the sequence is intended to evoke the themes of Dante’s Inferno. Inspired by Giovanni Piranesi’s architectural etchings of subterranean prisons and the nightmarish illustrations of William Blake, the great worm weaves its way through a spiral of fractured Victorian London architecture, contrasting styles of decorative wealth with the lowly brickwork slums.

The decision was made to reduce the sequence significantly, but much of the detail is still embedded if you look closely.
